With the ferry ‘De Moerasdraak’, pedestrians can cross the Dommel river between Vughtereiland and the nature reserve Het Bossche Broek. The ferry is self-operated and forms an important connection between the city center and the outskirts. From Monday, February 2 until mid-March, the ferry will be temporarily out of service due to major maintenance.
Major maintenance
Every five years, ‘De Moerasdraak’ undergoes major maintenance. We replace all moving parts, clean the ferry, and apply a new coat of paint. The chains and cables in the water are also renewed, as well as the moving parts on the quay. This maintenance is important for passenger safety.
Why in winter?
The ferry is used year-round by pedestrians. Because winter is the quietest period, we deliberately perform maintenance at this time. This way, the ferry is ready for spring when the weather improves and the days get longer.
Het Bossche Broek can be accessed via the entrance on Pettelaarseweg.
