The renovation of Lock 0 is starting. This is necessary because the current lock is at the end of its lifespan. Therefore, we will replace it. Besides renewing the technology, the surroundings of Lock 0 will also get a new look. It will become park-like with trees and will be attractively designed. This will make it a pleasant place to walk and stay on and near the water.
Alderman Ralph Geers: “The start of the work is a great start to the year. We are preparing the lock for the future and investing heavily in the immediate surroundings. So that it becomes an attractive place for everyone. A more than welcome addition to the Zuid-Willemspark.”
Water Board Aa and Maas is working together with the municipality to provide for peak discharge.
Daily board member Water Board Aa and Maas, Peter van Dijk: “As a water board, we are closely involved in constructing discharge channels for peak discharge. Peak discharge is a large amount of rainwater that must be drained in a short time. The discharge channels ensure that the peak discharge can pass along the lock and protect the city of Den Bosch from flooding.”

Work and accessibility
In the coming years, we will work together with contractor Dura Vermeer on Lock 0. The work starts this month and will be completed by the end of 2027, so that in the 2028 boating season the first pleasure boats can pass through the lock again.
We try to limit the inconvenience of the work as much as possible. For example, we work from the water where possible. However, we will also work from land, which will cause traffic adjustments. On certain days, a bridge must be closed, cranes placed, and accessibility will temporarily change.
Director Dura Vermeer Infra Regional Projects, Roelant Veldboer: “Lock 0 is more than a technical structure for us. We are building a future-proof lock and a place that contributes to the livable and characteristic Den Bosch. We work with attention to the environment, so that inconvenience for residents is minimized.”
