From Monday, January 19, we will repair sunken and broken paving at the Market and in Kerkstraat. This will ensure the paving looks neat again.
Market
In December, we already started repair work at the Market. At that time, the slanted curbs were roughened to provide more grip. From January 19, we will continue repairing unevenness in the paving, especially near the slanted curb. We work in small sections. The work will take about 3 weeks. We take into account activities at the Market, such as the market day.
Kerkstraat
We will also start work in Kerkstraat. On January 19, we will begin replacing broken granite tiles in the section towards the Market. This section will be closed for about a week. This is necessary to allow the line under the new tiles to harden properly. Shops will remain accessible. Afterwards, we will also replace some broken tiles on Kerkplein.
The schedule depends on the weather. Work can only proceed at temperatures above freezing. Otherwise, it will be postponed for several weeks depending on contractor availability.
Greening Kerkstraat
At the end of February, after the carnival period, we will start greening part of Kerkstraat, between Korte Putstraat and Parade. We will place raised green planters with benches and plant trees. This contributes to a greener and more attractive city center. Residents and entrepreneurs will receive more information soon.
