We celebrate Carnival together in Tilburg. In Kruikenstad, meeting, fun, and connection are central. Young and old: everyone is welcome to enjoy this beautiful tradition and the green-orange festival together.
Mayor Fleur Gräper - van Koolwijk: “Carnival belongs to all of us. For me, it will be my first carnival as mayor of Tilburg and I am very much looking forward to celebrating it together with you. Lets be considerate of each other and ensure a festival that is hospitable, safe, and above all very enjoyable.”
“But we do not organize carnival alone. Together with our hospitality entrepreneurs, the Tilburg Carnival Foundation (CST), emergency services, and many volunteers, we work intensively to ensure that everyone, young and old, can celebrate carnival safely and hospitably. This cooperation is the basis for a great festival!”.
Regulating Access During Crowds
During the busiest moments, it may be necessary to temporarily take measures in some places to keep it safe and pleasant for everyone. If it becomes too crowded at Piusplein, Stadhuisstraat, Paleisring, and Korte Heuvel, access to these locations may be temporarily limited. By placing fences at the edges of these areas, it is possible to better regulate access at that moment. This way, there is space for everyone to enjoy carefree. We only regulate access when necessary and always with safety in mind. This measure applies to everyone, not just young people. These agreements have been made together by the Tilburg Carnival Foundation, hospitality sector, and municipality.
Hospitality Gates and House Rules
Throughout the event area, there are several hospitality gates. These are located at the access routes towards Stadsforum, Stadhuisplein, Stadhuisstraat, Paleisring, Piusplein, Heuvelplein, and Korte Heuvel. Within these gates, clear house rules apply. Among them is the NIX18 rule: young people under 18 are not allowed to drink alcohol. Security guards monitor this and can refuse access to young people who are clearly under the influence. This is not an end in itself but a way to protect young people and the festival.
Plenty of Space
There is plenty of space within the event area to celebrate carnival, for example at Stadsforum, Stadhuisplein, and Heuvelplein. Find a good spot there together to experience the green-orange festival. Parents remain responsible for their children and young people. We ask everyone to be considerate of each other and to follow instructions from the organization and emergency services if necessary.
Safe Space
Carnival is a celebration for all of us. Street intimidation or unwanted behavior is never okay and has no place during carnival either. Therefore, at the first aid post on Stadhuisplein (in front of the Town Hall), there is again a so-called Safe Space. People can go there if they feel unsafe or if it becomes too much. There are caregivers present who can offer a listening ear and/or support. Here you can calm down and share your story. Always report street intimidation because your report helps others as well. See the page Street Intimidation for how to file a report. This keeps the carnival pleasant and safe for everyone.
