As a municipality, we adapt streets and greenery to cope as well as possible with very wet and very dry periods. For example, by creating infiltration basins (wadis), see the photo in this message. Wet and dry periods occur more frequently due to the changing climate. We do our best to properly drain all rainwater during wet periods, but unfortunately water on the streets cannot always be prevented.

Cleaning

The municipality tries to limit water on the streets. For example, we clean sewer drains extra often in neighborhoods with many trees. Additionally, the municipality clears fallen leaves and cleans ditches and other watercourses that drain water.

What can you do?

You can also help reduce water nuisance at home. For example, by:

  • Removing leaves from your gutters and downspouts on time;

  • Occasionally checking if the inlet of your rain barrel is not clogged;

  • Sweeping leaves aside if you see a clogged sewer drain on the street.
