In the spring, we determined in the Perspective Note which priorities are important for our city and villages in the coming year. With the budget, we now also show in which plans we will invest and how much money is available for that.

Two major changes are central in the Program Budget for the coming year.

  • The spatial change: Tilburg will grow in the coming years with many new homes, facilities, and jobs. At the same time, we are making the city greener, climate-resilient, and taking steps towards a CO₂-neutral energy system.
  • The social change: we want to better support residents by focusing more on prevention and self-reliance. This means addressing problems as early as possible and giving residents more control over their own lives. Only when necessary will specialized care follow.

To bear these changes, we are also implementing our economic strategy. This ensures that Tilburg can continue to earn and innovate strongly in the future, and that there is enough space for businesses to establish and grow.

Finance alderman Maarten van Asten: “I am proud that we can present a balanced budget in which we can continue to invest in our city and villages on the one hand and leave a healthy financial municipality for the future municipal council on the other. A comforting thought, especially in these times of unrest on the world stage. We can now do what is necessary for a growing and flourishing city, knowing that our successors can continue that.”

Working and Living

We want to create neighborhoods where people feel at home, meet each other, and have space to relax – both indoors and outdoors. In doing so, we build as sustainably as possible: energy-efficient, climate-resilient, and with attention to nature and water.

Together with partners in the city, we are also working on a smart energy system, so that heat, coolness, and electricity are available to everyone in an innovative and efficient way in the future.

Investing in the City of Tomorrow

Tilburg is growing rapidly, which requires significant investments in housing, facilities, and a pleasant living environment. To make this possible, we are already reserving money for the future. This ensures that we can afford the construction of new neighborhoods, better accessibility, and more greenery, without the municipality getting into trouble.

We are supplementing a special fund for this purpose, so that we have enough resources to continue investing in the coming years. In addition, we receive support from the national government and the province to realize our housing ambition of 2,000 new homes per year.

In short: we are not only building new houses and neighborhoods but also ensuring that the finances are in order so that Tilburg can continue to grow sustainably.

Opportunities for Everyone

We want all Tilburg residents to live pleasantly and healthily, now and in the future. Therefore, we are working towards a society where children get a good start, people meet and support each other, and everyone has the opportunity to participate.

The demand for care is growing, while there is less money and staff available. Therefore, we are focusing more on prevention rather than cure: identifying problems earlier, organizing help nearby, and empowering residents so they are less dependent on expensive specialized care.

What Does This Mean for You?

Concretely, this means that we are investing in neighborhoods where people can meet and support each other. We ensure that schools and childcare can identify problems early, so that school dropout is prevented. We also deploy neighborhood care teams that work closely with residents and coordinate help. Additionally, we promote sports, culture, and volunteer work to combat loneliness and increase opportunities for everyone.

In this way, we are building together a resilient city where everyone feels seen and receives the right help when needed.
