This proposal follows the council decision of June 30, 2025, regarding the traffic plan. This plan includes adjustments to various roads in the city. These changes will lead to a better distribution of car traffic across the city in the coming years and encourage cycling and the use of public transport. This is necessary because the city is growing significantly and traffic is increasing.
Fewer Cars, More Fast Buses
By adjusting Ringbaan West, the municipality aims to prevent the road from becoming completely congested in the future. It is already busy, and with the citys growth, this will only increase. We want to redirect cars that do not need to be in the city to other roads, so that fewer cars and more fast buses will run on Ringbaan West.
Proposal
Since the council decision, research has been conducted on various redesign options and measures needed for accessibility, livability, and traffic safety in other roads and neighborhoods. These are called complementary measures. Based on this research and discussions with the city, the executive board proposes to the municipal council to:
- Redesign Ringbaan West between Baroniebaan and Hasseltrotonde with one lane per direction for car traffic
- Maintain double lanes for straight-through car traffic at some intersections
- Create dedicated bus lanes in both directions between Professor Cobbenhagenlaan and Hasseltrotonde
- Principally also choose dedicated bus lanes between Professor Cobbenhagenlaan and Baroniebaan and conduct further research on traffic aspects, spatial impact, livability effects, and public transport flow
- Implement part of the complementary measures by 2028, linked to the reconstruction of the Ringbaan West viaduct
- Implement the other complementary measures from 2029 onwards, once the viaduct is completed
The entire council proposal and all research can be read via tilburg.notubiz.nl. In November and December, the municipal council will discuss this proposal and make a decision. Afterwards, we will further develop the plans together with residents and stakeholders. More information is available on the page Traffic Plan.
