Tonight, Tuesday evening February 17, Ramadan begins for many Muslims in our municipality. This fasting month is an important time of reflection, solidarity, and togetherness for many people. The Municipality of Tilburg wishes everyone a pleasant Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak!
Ramadan is expected to begin on Tuesday evening February 17 or Wednesday February 18, 2026 and end on Wednesday March 18 or Thursday March 19, 2026. The exact start and end date may differ by community by one day.
Fasting and eating
During Ramadan many people fast. They do not eat or drink anything between sunrise and sunset, not even water. Before sunrise and after sunset they do eat and drink. At sunset the fast is broken, usually by drinking a glass of water and eating a date. This is often followed by an evening meal: the iftar. This is often a cozy communal meal with family, friends, neighbors or other people from your community. It is a moment to come together, talk to each other and seek connection.
The Tilburg City Iftar
After a successful first edition in 2025, the Municipality of Tilburg is organizing the Tilburg City Iftar again in 2026. A special moment where we come together for an evening meal, connection and dialogue. With the City Iftar we want to create space for dialogue, understanding and a sense of community in our diverse city.
The Tilburg City Iftar is at the Tilburg City Hall on Tuesday February 24. This iftar is already fully booked. People can no longer register for this. They can still join one of the many iftars organized in the city and villages by mosques and social organizations.
