The principles for the Heat Program have been established. An important step in preparing for a natural gas-free Tilburg. These points explain how we replace natural gas with other energy sources and when the municipality will do so. Also, in which areas this will happen first.
Principles
We distinguish between 2 questions:
- What? How do we replace natural gas with other energy sources, such as heat or electricity?
- When? In which areas do we start first, and where later?
For the new heating methods, 4 important principles apply:
- Affordable – for residents now and in the future.
- Sustainable – good for the environment.
- Spatially adaptable – it must fit into the environment.
- Future-proof – also suitable for the long term.
Where do we start
We look at coupling opportunities: moments when we can cleverly combine with other plans in a neighborhood. For example:
- Spatial coupling opportunity: if there are many new developments in an area or if a housing corporation is already working on sustainability in a neighborhood.
- Social-societal coupling opportunity: if a neighborhood actively participates or if we can tackle energy poverty, so residents have lower energy costs.
Why important
With these principles, the municipality can make choices that are fair, feasible, and affordable. This ensures that the transition to natural gas-free aligns well with residents wishes and other developments in the city.
