The CastellumCafé will reopen to the public on Friday, August 15. This makes the entire Castellum Hoge Woerd accessible again. After the lowered ceiling in the CastellumCafé fell last year, extensive research was conducted into the possible cause. Over the past two months, significant work has been done to restore it. In addition to installing a new lowered ceiling, extra measures have been taken against vibrations and noise. The reopening of the CastellumCafé takes place in the month when Castellum Hoge Woerd celebrates its tenth anniversary.

After the lowered ceiling in the café area of Castellum Hoge Woerd fell last year, the entire building was temporarily closed for safety reasons. Podium Hoge Woerd, Museum Hoge Woerd, and Steede Hoge Woerd were able to reopen to the public in October 2024. Further investigation and restoration were necessary for the cafés reopening.

A specialized team started an extensive investigation into the cause. That investigation took longer than expected. The investigation revealed that the suspension of the lowered ceiling was the problem. The restoration of that has been carried out in the past two months, during which several improvements have also been made.

Castellum Hoge Woerd is built on the remains of five successive Roman forts. The unique location is a legally protected archaeological monument and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2021. The municipality of Utrecht owns the building. Since its opening, Castellum Hoge Woerd attracts more than 150,000 visitors each year.
