The municipality of Utrecht is conducting an independent investigation into traffic safety and livability on David van Mollemstraat, Draaiweg, and Talmalaan. The investigation was prompted by a petition submitted by residents earlier this year. The investigation will be conducted by consulting firm DTV and will start on Friday, August 29.
As part of the investigation, DTV will carry out various measurements in the neighborhood. Using counting tubes, the number of cyclists and vehicles and their speed will be recorded. These will be placed on the street from August 29 to September 14. Additionally, traffic moments will be observed with cameras. These are events that may indicate dangerous traffic situations. By documenting these moments, DTV can proactively map out where potential bottlenecks are located. The cameras will be active from September 1 to September 7.
The results of these measurements will form an important basis for the investigation and the next steps. Based on the analysis, DTV will make proposals for measures and recommendations. These will be documented in a report that will be delivered later this year. Residents will be actively involved in the investigation through neighborhood messages, information meetings, and a survey.
