On the morning of Thursday, January 29, the Utrecht municipal council recommended Sharon Dijksma for reappointment as mayor of Utrecht. The council made this decision during a closed meeting.
Dijksma has been mayor since December 17, 2020, and the council wishes to see her serve another six years as mayor. This recommendation follows a carefully conducted procedure by the councils confidence committee. The committee chairman and council member Maarten van Heuven stated that Dijksma fulfills her role as mayor with distinction: “We know her as involved and decisive and have great appreciation for the way she fulfills her role.”
Last year, Dijksma already expressed her enthusiastic availability for a second term as mayor. She said she wants to continue to dedicate herself with heart and soul to Utrecht. She is delighted with the support she receives from the Utrecht municipal council: “I want to continue building this beautiful city with pride, self-confidence, and courage, the merciful heart of the Netherlands, the city of Saint Martin.”
Royal Decree
The recommendation of the Utrecht municipal council is now submitted via the Kings Commissioner to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. On the ministers recommendation, the mayor will then be reappointed by Royal Decree. Sharon Dijksmas installation for her second term as mayor of Utrecht will take place in December.
