Parents with a baby in Kanaleneiland, Transwijk, or Overvecht can apply for a Baby Vegetable Bag. Each week, there are two fresh vegetables included, plus a recipe. This helps babies develop a healthy taste and allows parents to discover how easy and fun cooking with fresh ingredients can be. Parents with a baby between 4 and 6 months will receive the bag delivered to their home for free for 8 weeks after registration.

The first 1,000 days are crucial for the future

Fresh vegetables are essential to reduce the risk of overweight and the chance of serious diseases later in life. The vegetable bag is a weekly meal bag for the baby. Each week, there are two fresh vegetables from the farmer included, plus a recipe, good for about 7 meals. With the first bag, you can order freezer containers and an immersion blender.

Councilor Eelco Eerenberg (Public Health): “The first 1,000 days of a childs life are crucial for taste preferences and later health. Parents are sometimes unsure about which vegetables are suitable for their baby and how to prepare them. The Baby Vegetable Bag helps with this. With the Baby Vegetable Bag, we support families in neighborhoods where the health gap is larger, so that all children have the opportunity to grow up healthy.”

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle

The Baby Vegetable Bag is an initiative that aligns with the ambitions of the program Chance for a Rich Start and the implementation program Healthy Weight Utrecht Youth. The Baby Vegetable Bag starts as a pilot in the Utrecht neighborhoods of Kanaleneiland, Transwijk, and Overvecht. Parents can register by postcode at www.babygroentetas.nl.
