On Thursday, May 8, the exhibition Young Perspectives on Utrecht Safety will open in the old city hall of Utrecht. Utrecht students from five secondary schools will show how they, in the role of council members, think about safety in Utrecht.
In this exhibition, they present their creative solutions to a safety issue they have discovered in Utrecht. The students from Globe College Utrecht, X11, Yuverta Utrecht VMBO, Utrechts Stedelijk Gymnasium, and Volt! Toekomstmakers have learned more about the municipal council and what it is like to be a council member over the past few months. They have translated these insights about the future of the city into tangible final products. From warning against pickpockets, combating poverty, and improving poor street lighting to solutions for street intimidation and ideas to tackle violence against transgender people.
The exhibition will be opened by students and deputy chairman of the municipal council Pepijn Zwanenberg. He says: These artworks come directly from the students who visited the city hall this year. It is great to see what the youth have come up with for Utrecht. The city hall is filled with their ideas – who knows, there might even be plans from future council members among them!
Are you curious how young thinkers want to make the city safer? Come by from May 1 to May 27, be surprised, and discover how the younger generation thinks about the future of Utrecht!
