On Thursday, November 27, children will take over the question hour of the Utrecht city council. Aldermen Susanne Schilderman and Senna Maatoug are ready to answer the curious questions of children during the Childrens Question Hour in the Utrecht council chamber. From the right to demonstrate to litter on the street near containers. Council member Melody Deldjou Fard chairs this cheerful question hour.

Students from groups 7 and 8 of various Utrecht primary schools have prepared questions together with their classmates in advance. The questions come directly from the childrens living environment, such as a soccer field with an awkward ditch next to it and litter near waste containers. But also about serious topics, such as the right to demonstrate. They ask their questions to the aldermen, discover how decisions are made, and learn that decisions of the city council are also important for them.

Chairperson Melody Deldjou Fard is most looking forward to the childrens ideas: Sometimes these are even more fun than ours as adults. The Childrens Question Hour lets children experience what local democracy means: that as a resident of the city you can participate, ask questions, and that your ideas matter to make Utrecht even more beautiful.

The Childrens Question Hour takes place on Thursday, November 27 from 5:15 PM to 6:15 PM in the Utrecht council chamber. Journalists are warmly invited to attend. The Childrens Question Hour is part of #democratie030, the democracy program of the Utrecht city council. #democratie030 works daily to involve Utrechters in local democracy, from classes visiting the town hall to residents attending council meetings. This is already the third time the Childrens Question Hour is organized.
