In a letter to the municipal council, Rachel Streefland announces today that she will resign as alderman effective September 29. Streefland will start working as chairperson of the youth care organization Timon.
In January 2022, Streefland took over from Maarten van Ooijen as alderman representing the ChristenUnie after sitting in the municipal council for 4 years. As an administrator, she was responsible for the portfolios of Asylum and Integration, Social Care and Protected Living, Heritage, Werven, Personnel and Organization, and the Overvecht district. In her letter, Streefland writes that the call to take on social responsibility outside of politics grew louder. She also expresses her gratitude for being able to contribute to caring for those in need in the city of Saint Martin.
Mayor Sharon Dijksma: “Rachel Streefland has dealt with many complex files in recent years, and she has done so exceptionally well. She is principled and value-driven. Personally, I will greatly miss working with her. We worked closely together and got along well both professionally and personally. I wish her all the best in her new role.”
Rachel Streefland will resign on September 29, 2025, as alderman. The ChristenUnie will propose a new candidate.
