Two new bicycle parking facilities have opened in the Springweg parking garage. These include a pop-up bicycle parking and a neighborhood parking, together providing over 400 extra bicycle parking spaces. This temporarily creates more space for bicycles in the city center, including for larger models such as cargo bikes and adapted bicycles.
The free and supervised pop-up parking has moved from Mariaplaats to the covered garage at Springweg. This parking is open on Friday and Saturday from 09:00 to 23:00, and on Sunday from 11:30 to 19:00. There is space for a total of 260 bicycles, of which 16 spots are specifically reserved for larger bicycles.
Additionally, a new neighborhood parking has opened with space for 150 bicycles. This is accessible 24 hours a day for Utrecht residents with a subscription. A standard annual subscription costs €54.18. For a cargo bike or other large model, a rate of €108.38 per year applies. Registration can be done via veiligstallen.nl/utrecht.
The Springweg parking garage will remain in use until 2028. After that, the area will receive a new layout. Until then, the space will be used for both car and bicycle parking.
Exchanging Parking Permit for Garage Space
For residents and entrepreneurs, it is possible to exchange their street parking permit for a spot in the Springweg garage. The costs are €114.82 per month for residents and €228.59 for entrepreneurs. If you are not satisfied with the garage subscription, you can request your old permit back within six months. This can be done up to a maximum of two years after the exchange, without having to go back on the waiting list.
