On Thursday, November 20, rowers Lisanne van der Lelij, Pieter van Veen, and Eli Brouwer received a sports medal. They were awarded this medal by Eva Oosters, Alderman for Sports.
From September 21 to 28, the World Rowing Championships were held in Shanghai, China. For the first time in rowing history, the Netherlands won a gold medal in Shanghai with both the womens eight and the mens eight. Orca rower Lisanne van der Lelij was on board the womens eight. Eli Brouwer and Pieter van Veen from Triton were part of the mens eight, which won the gold. Brouwer participated last year in the mens four at the Olympic Games in Paris, while Van Veen was a reserve for the Dutch team there.
The sports medals bear the following inscription, as a tribute to Utrechts contribution to the World Championships:
- World Rowing Championships Shanghai 2025
- From the Merwedekanaal to the Dianshan Lake
- Rowing in the rhythm of the city
