The municipality of Utrecht has reallocated subsidies for talent development in sports. KNSB Shorttrack Talent Team, LABC Triathlon, RTC Waterpolo Foundation, Top Judo Utrecht Foundation, and Volleyball Association Utrecht will again receive subsidies to continue their programs. For the first time, Skatepark Utrecht Foundation, Turn4U, and Utrecht Athletics will receive support. In total, eight programs have been awarded subsidies. Sports federations, associations, and other sports providers could submit applications until before the summer.
The allocation is based on a renewed subsidy regulation with which Utrecht aims for strong talent programs that align with the citys identity. The regulation provides four years of certainty, in line with the Olympic cycle of NOC*NSF, and takes into account rising costs of training programs. The age limit for participants has also been raised so that athletes who break through later have the opportunity to further develop. Additionally, programs are expected to contribute significantly to talent development in all neighborhoods and ensure a positive, socially safe sports culture.
Councilor Eva Oosters (Sports): “I am pleased with the initiatives, including the new ones like Skatepark Utrecht Foundation, Turn4U, and Utrecht Athletics, to commit themselves to talented athletes in these sports over the next four years. Sports provide a platform for talent and strengthen team spirit. With this allocation, we make sports more accessible and broader, and we stimulate talent development for all Utrecht neighborhoods. I am proud of the number of applications, also from various sports, and of the contribution these programs make to the Utrecht sports ambassadors of the future. They can, with their performances and commitment, again be an inspiration for other Utrechters.”
