The municipality is making great strides to make regulations more accessible, allowing families to experience less stress and fully benefit from the available support. They also value the U-pass more than ever. This effort stems from the implementation program Work and Income A secure existence, working together, in which over sixty measures were presented.
Councilor Linda Voortman (Work and Income) emphasizes the importance of equal opportunities: Everyone in Utrecht deserves the chance to participate in society without worries. Children are the future, and they must always come first. Therefore, we are wholeheartedly committed to making regulations simpler and more accessible so that residents can focus on what truly matters: a stable and secure existence.
U-pass used more widely and loved by Utrechters
The U-pass, the main tool to support residents with low incomes, receives an unprecedented rating of 8.1 in the latest customer satisfaction survey. The great freedom with which pass holders spend their budget and receive discounts proves to be a great success.
The municipality invests €600,000 in sports and cultural participation for children through the U-pass (in addition to an impulse of €300,000 through various funds) and increases spending options. Thanks to initiatives such as the campaign Do you know what you are entitled to? families are better informed, making it easier for children to participate in activities that allow them to engage in society.
Less financial uncertainty through automatic settlements
A significant step forward in the fight against financial stress: the municipality is automating the settlement of income alongside the social assistance benefit, such as pensions and other benefits. This prevents errors and ensures residents receive exactly what they are entitled to.
Additionally, there will be an extra safety net for workers with fluctuating incomes. In collaboration with Stichting Collectief Kapitaal, the action Bestaansbalans is being implemented, so that residents are no longer confronted with difficult settlements during income changes.
Households financially in the green
The latest Minimum Effect Report shows that all household types with a minimum income come out financially positive, provided they take advantage of all available regulations. On www.utrecht.nl/rondkomen all regulations are listed. Especially families with children benefit from the increase in the U-pass budget and the individual income supplement.
With this progress, Utrecht underscores its mission: equal opportunities for a secure existence. Because everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in society without financial worries.
