In Zaanstad, there is now a substantial amount of snow. This creates beautiful scenes but also a significant challenge in combating slippery conditions. Our outdoor colleagues cannot easily reach all locations with their vehicles in this winter weather. This means we cannot perform all services as usual. Some services will operate differently over the coming days. There are also some changes at the Civil Affairs department due to the winter weather.

Collection appointments for bulky waste and electrical appliances

Due to slippery roads, some routes cannot be driven in the coming days. Therefore, making an appointment for bulky waste collection is temporarily not possible. If you already have an appointment, you may present your waste according to the applicable rules. However, we cannot guarantee that your address is safely accessible. If we cannot safely reach your address, we will inform you.

If weather permits, we will resume collection. The HVC recycling centers in Wormerveer and Zaandam are open. Please monitor the HVC Group website for possible changes in opening hours.

Litter, dumping, and trash bins

At this moment, we cannot clean up litter or remove dumping. We are also emptying trash bins less frequently. Our staff are all helping to combat slippery conditions by spreading grit near schools, bus stops, stairs, bridges, and sidewalks near hospitals.

Christmas trees and fireworks waste

You can drop off Christmas trees on Saturday, January 10, at designated collection points. If this changes, we will inform you on that page. Loose Christmas trees left in public spaces after this date and fireworks debris will only be removed once normal operations resume.

Other reports

All other reports in public spaces will only be addressed if they concern emergencies. Unfortunately, this may mean that handling a report takes longer than usual (more than 30 days).

If weather permits, we will first catch up on the backlog as quickly as possible.

Fewer morning appointment options at Civil Affairs

Due to weather conditions, there are temporarily fewer appointment options at the Civil Affairs desks (before 10:00 AM).

Urgent appointments, weddings, and birth registrations will always proceed.

On Thursday, January 8, and Friday, January 9, you can walk in freely until 4:00 PM to apply for travel documents.

Please be aware that we cannot guarantee timely delivery of travel documents during these winter days.

If you already know you cannot come, please cancel your appointment in time.
