The winners of the Zaanstad Sports Awards were announced on Monday, February 9, during a festive evening. After an exciting voting period, the votes have been counted and the champions of the past sports year have been determined.
The Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year are Pauline Hondema and Menno Vloon, athlete (AV Lycurgus). Team of the Year is ZV de Zaan, womens water polo. The foundation De Blijde Ruiters was awarded the Sport Impact Award for their commitment to sports and their special contribution to society.
Biggest Talent
Fama de Haan, karate (Choku), holds the title ‘Biggest Talent’ this year. Corina Dekker, coach of FC Twente womens team, was named Coach of the Year, and FC Zaanstad Deaf under 21 won Parasport Athlete of the Year.
Recognizing achievements of regional athletes
The Zaanstad Sports Awards is an important occasion to recognize the achievements of athletes from the region. The awards are organized annually by the municipality of Zaanstad, Topsport Zaanstreek, and Sportbedrijf Zaanstad. Nominees are selected in various categories. The jury and the residents of Zaanstad together decide who the winners are.
