Alderman Gerdien Rots is pleased with the temporary solution: ‘It is great that we can temporarily make good use of the Bogenhal in this way. We are giving an existing place a new function in a circular manner. The hall offers AFAC sufficient space and has a practical location to continue their good work. In the long term, AFAC will have a permanent location in the Nieuwe Veemarkt.’ The current location on Derk Buismanstraat will be vacated by March 1, 2026, because the owner has terminated the lease. Therefore, from February 2, 2026, AFAC will start operating from its temporary accommodation in the Bogenhal, on the A28 side. In the longer term, AFAC will have a permanent place in the future mobility hub at Nieuwe Veemarkt, expected in 2030.
Spacious and accessible
The Bogenhal offers sufficient space for AFACs activities and is centrally located between the city center and the station. This allows AFAC to efficiently continue its work - collecting, registering, and managing incorrectly parked, abandoned, or orphaned bicycles. The spacious hall provides room to store more bicycles carefully and process them faster. Thanks to the central location, AFAC is also easily accessible for both residents and visitors.
The municipality investigated whether AFAC could be temporarily housed in NEXT (former Hudson Bay building), but the reserved space proved unsuitable due to lack of square meters, height, and daylight. The lost coverage is compensated by renting these spaces to other temporary functions. NEXT will have a mix of activities, such as a hospitality/game concept, artist spaces, a bicycle parking facility, and retail space.
AFAC Zwolle
The presence of AFAC in Zwolle ensures a cleaner, safer, and more accessible city. By removing bicycle wrecks and incorrectly parked bicycles, walking routes remain clear and bicycle parking spaces remain available for daily use.
