On Friday evening, January 23, Michael Klomp and Geertje Havers from the Heritage team of the Municipality of Zwolle will take visitors on a journey through the fascinating history of the iconic building: House with the Heads. The lecture also offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the footwear depicted on the houses consoles.
From Builder to Shoe Fashion
The fifteenth-century House with the Heads on Goudsteeg is one of the most authentic medieval residential buildings in the Netherlands. This building still raises questions, especially about the identity of the builder. The first part of the lecture will focus on the special history of the building, which was saved from demolition in the 1970s thanks to the efforts of the Friends of the City Center and Hans Prins. Historical research and archival material will highlight several possible builders.
The second part of the lecture zooms in on the footwear depicted on the houses consoles. Archaeological research into these details offers a unique insight into shoe fashion of the second half of the fifteenth century. It promises to be an inspiring evening for everyone interested in Zwolles history.
