NEXT
After 6 years of vacancy, the doors of Hudsons Bay will gradually reopen in the coming months. Alderman Anja Roelfs: “This new phase also comes with a new name. A name has been chosen that energizes and looks forward. The name symbolizes the next step. For progress. For new possibilities. It shows that we are bringing this building and area back to life. First for temporary use and later with the definitive redevelopment of this place.”
The name is set for the next three to five years. When the redevelopment of NEXT begins, the building will receive its definitive name. That choice is up to a future developer.
Temporary Use
In the coming months, NEXT will gradually open for the residents of Zwolle and visitors. There will be space for culture and meeting. Think of studios for artists, space for pop-up activities (like the concert from two weeks ago), social functions, and catering. The building will also have a practical use: this year, the bicycle parking from Meerminneplein will move inside, creating space outside in the square for other activities. Together with the neighborhood, considerations will be made about what is appropriate there.
