From today, cyclists can easily park their bikes with crates or child seats in the guarded self-service bicycle parking Westerlaan. The renovated parking facility, located under the Stationsplein parking garage, has 821 wider bike racks. Additionally, there is a separate area with its own entrance where mobility scooters and adapted bicycles can be parked. This area is on the ground floor for easy accessibility.

Self-service bicycle parking at Westerlaan for bikes with crates or child seats

In the renewed self-service parking, the distance between the bike racks has been increased so that cyclists with crates or child seats have more space when parking. Therefore, cyclists with crates or child seats are expected to park their bikes in this facility from today. Parking is free for the first 24 hours, and cyclists can enter with an OV-chipkaart. This parking is also a good alternative for people who cannot use the ramp of the underground bicycle parking at Stationsplein.

Permanent solution for mobility scooters and adapted bicycles

The separate ground-level area in the renewed parking provides a permanent solution for people who use a mobility scooter or an adapted bicycle. Travelers who want access to this special area for adapted bicycles can apply for a bicycle parking subscription via NS Customer Service.

Resident José Bloemen, who has an adapted bicycle, opened the parking together with alderman Gerdien Rots and regional directors Danou Veenhof (ProRail) and Luutzen Stellingwerff (NS). Alderman Gerdien Rots said: ‘Many residents told us over the past years that they could hardly find space for their adapted bicycle, mobility scooter, or bike with crate or child seat at the station. That is why I am glad we now have a parking facility that meets the needs of our residents. A safe, spacious, and accessible place where everyone can park their bike - including those dependent on an adapted bicycle or mobility scooter. With the renewed Westerlaan bicycle parking, we fulfill an important promise: that our city must be accessible and reachable for everyone.’
