The Spoorzone is increasingly taking shape. With the opening of the Passerelle, the opening of the Rode Hal, and the start of construction of social rental housing on the former Hanzebad site, the area is gaining more character. Todays signing directly contributes to this. With the agreements in the Hanzekwartier, this sub-area is also taking shape.
The Hanzekwartier is located as a link between the old NS halls at the station and the outskirts towards the IJssel River, with the education and knowledge campus where Windesheim is located in between. Because of this location, the Hanzekwartier is a strategic spot within the Spoorzone.
Space for temporary mobility hub
One of the agreements concerns the arrival of a temporary mobility hub on the grounds of Zone.college. This agreement involves the educational institution providing space for extra parking spots intended for students, staff, and future residents. This meets parking needs and allows housing construction in the area to start. In this way, Zone.college contributes to the livability and accessibility of the Hanzekwartier.
We feel at home in this environment and are happy to contribute as a partner in area development to the renewal of the area,” says Bas Timmer, member of the board of Zone.college. “With this temporary mobility hub, we make the area more accessible and future-proof.
Working together
In addition, cooperation agreements have been made for Noordzeelaan and Hanzeplein. Here, multiple parties work together on the development of a mixed urban program, with space for housing, amenities, and redesigned public spaces. The joint approach makes it possible to develop faster and more flexibly.
We combine our forces to shape the Hanzekwartier step by step,” says Dennis Laing of BPD on behalf of the involved market parties. “This cooperation helps us combine quality and speed.
Hanzekwartier: where city and landscape meet
The Hanzekwartier is an area where city and landscape come together. The area is developing into a place with a mix of functions: living, working, meeting, and learning come together here. Attention is given to greenery, smart mobility, and innovative forms of living. The development aligns with the broader ambitions of the Spoorzone as an attractive and future-proof city district.
Alderman Gerdien Rots: For residents, this means that the Hanzekwartier is gradually changing into a place where you can live, learn, and stay comfortably. By working together with education and market parties, we ensure a good balance between housing, accessibility, and space for meeting.
Next steps
The involved parties are now working further on spatial development plans. Based on these, a change to the environmental plan will follow and permits for housing construction can be applied for. The temporary mobility hub of Zone.college will only be realized when it is needed for housing construction. The expectation is that the first construction works will start in 2028.
