Core Event (Zwolle Basic Infrastructure)
Under the Zwolle cultural basic infrastructure scheme (BIS), a subsidy has been granted to the Common Ground Festival. This is a multi-day music festival at surprising locations in Zwolles city center. It brings together jazz, world, and classical music. Established artists and new (local) talents perform. The next edition is from October 9 to 18, 2026.
Core events have a distinctive profile and regional appeal. Previously, the Liberation Festival Overijssel and PROTO received subsidies from this multi-year scheme. After the cancellation of the Magna festival, the scheme has been reopened for the period 2026-2028.
Non-cultural Events
Under the non-cultural events scheme, eleven events receive subsidies. These are:
- Half Marathon
- Winters Zwolle
- The Street Festival
- The Blauwvingerdagen
- The Oranjedagen
- Kings Day and Night at the Nieuwe Markt
- The Star of Zwolle
- The Sinterklaas Arrival
- The Carnival Parade
- Oranjepret
- The Outdoor Cinema
The subsidy application for the Zwolle Pride Festival was rejected. The requested subsidizable amount does not meet the conditions of the events scheme. The municipality considers the Zwolle Pride Festival an important event for the city, which clearly contributes to an inclusive and diverse city where everyone is welcome. Therefore, efforts are being made to enable the Zwolle Pride Festival next year. In early January 2026, a new subsidy round will open for applications for an event focused on diversity and inclusion, organizing a parade, and programming based on acceptance of the target group, awareness, and education.
Art Events
Under the art events scheme (professionals), two events receive subsidies. These are:
- Stichting Woelwater – Kattegat Festival 2026
The Kattegat Festival is a creative fringe event in Zwolles Spoorzone. The event offers a mix of music, theater, art, and experimentation. There is also space for emerging talent, sustainability, and inclusion. The event is characterized by surprising performances, vibrant and diverse activities, and a unique and free atmosphere. This event takes place on September 4, 5, and 6, 2026.
- Stichting Culturele Events Stadshagen – Symphonica Stadshagen 2026
Symphonica Stadshagen is a three-day cultural festival held in Twistvlietpark in the Stadshagen district. It connects classical music with theater, dance, and film. It offers various activities, from an open-air film to a grand concert by the water. This event takes place on June 25, 26, and 27, 2026.
There are still subsidies available in this scheme. Therefore, the municipal executive has decided to open a second round of this scheme in early 2026.
