The Omslag: a new, temporary meeting place as the hub of the neighborhood
The Omslag will be a beautiful place in the neighborhood where residents can meet, have conversations, and make plans for the Noorderkwartier together. A community room will be established in The Omslag. Housing corporation DeltaWonen will be present at fixed times in the community room, so tenants can easily and conveniently reach out with their questions. Saeed will provide catering in The Omslag, and the neighborhood manager will also be present. ‘I look forward to what is about to happen in this area, located between our beautiful city center and Dieze: it is good for Zwolle and the city center as an attractive destination and for the Dieze neighborhood. Residents will get more green spaces and more activities to participate in,’ said Alderman Anja Roelfs.
Invitation to organize activities with and for the neighborhood
The Omslag was conceived by Rob Moritz, who is also the architect of the building. To choose a new name, the municipality held a competition, which received more than 30 submissions. Alderman Roelfs unveiled the new facade cloth on the building, together with Rob Moritz, Martijn Sweitser from deltaWonen, Evianne Beijeman from Saeed, and Vincent Robijn from Collectie Overijssel.
Make it a beautiful place and get involved
‘We explicitly invite new initiators to organize activities for and with the neighborhood. This way, we encourage the area to develop now and become more and more a place of and for the residents,’ said Alderman Roelfs.
Start signal for the neighborhood market
After the unveiling, the alderman gave the start signal for the neighborhood market, which took place in and around the building. Residents of the neighborhood and guests could enjoy cozy stalls, activities for young and old, and snacks and drinks.
Development of Noorderkwartier
With the adoption of the Spatial Development Plan, the development of the Noorderkwartier has officially begun. The area – from the city center to Dieze – will grow into a lively and green urban neighborhood in the coming years. A place where culture, entrepreneurship, and amenities come together. Approximately 750 new homes will be built in this new Zwolle neighborhood. The part of the Noordereiland parking garage will be developed first, with around 280 new homes, a parking hub for the neighborhood, and a park by the canal. The part of the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf will have about 240 homes and over 11,000 m² of amenities. In other parts of the area, more homes will be built, more green spaces added, and social amenities will be provided.
