Sustainability in full scope

Zwolle has a clear ambition: to be fully CO₂-neutral by 2050. A roadmap is ready for the approximately 125 buildings in the municipal core portfolio. By taking action now, the municipality actively contributes to combating climate change and to comfortable, energy-efficient buildings for residents and users. De Jong: Sustainability goes beyond just technology. Of course, it is about CO₂ reduction and reducing natural gas usage – preferably towards gas-free. But we also explicitly look at climate adaptation, biodiversity, and circular construction. This way, we make our buildings future-proof, in the broadest sense.

Current situation

Each year, new buildings are selected for sustainability improvements. The municipality uses the national DuMaVa subsidy for this. For the period 2025–2028, budget has been allocated to allow projects to proceed vigorously. And this is just the beginning. Approximately six buildings will be addressed annually in the coming years.
