Ronald (not his real name) is a Bosnian veteran facing a complicated and difficult situation. Years ago, his ex-wife left the family, leaving him with their three children. Since then, a difficult divorce has been ongoing. Now, his exs lawyer demands the sale of their shared home. This puts Ronald in serious trouble, as he cannot buy a new house.

After his deployment in Bosnia, Ronald developed post-traumatic stress disorder, which caused him to become disabled. He receives a disability benefit from the UWV, but with that benefit, you cannot apply for a new mortgage. If the house is sold, he and his children risk becoming homeless within a few months.

Concerns Increase

Ronald seeks help from various organizations, but they tell him his situation is not urgent enough yet. On paper, he has assets and appears self-reliant. But Ronald does not feel that way at all. Things have not been going well for him and his children for some time. And as the sale approaches, their worries only increase.

Really Need Help

A week before the house goes on the market, Ronald desperately turns to us. Colleague Hans listens to his story and recognizes the urgency. Therefore, he immediately contacts several organizations. He emphasizes that Ronald really needs help and asks if they can do something for him.

Soon after, the municipality takes action. Two days later, the mayor and a municipal employee visit Ronald. They listen to his situation and discuss possible solutions. Ronald is allowed to reapply for an urgency declaration with the housing corporation.

A New Start

After a month full of uncertainty, good news finally arrives: the urgency declaration is granted, and the housing corporation has even found a suitable rental home. This is just in time, as the old house has been sold and must be vacated soon. Fortunately, Ronald and his children can move before that date. After a long period of stress and despair, this means a new start for them.

Care and Support

I am relieved that Ronald and his children ultimately received a home just in time. The quick action of the municipality was of great value. Ronald has done a lot for our country as a veteran. It is important that he not only receives recognition but also the care and support he needs. The personal conversation with the municipality made a world of difference for him.
