Various Topics

In 2025, the commission addressed various administrative law topics, including the consequences of problems with mail delivery. The courts increasingly note that registered mail does not reach the sender. This often leads to appeals based on excusable deadline overruns. The four highest administrative judges also exchanged views on new legal questions concerning compensation for non-material damage due to exceeding a reasonable time limit. But this is just a selection of the topics the commission discussed in 2025. The annual overview contains all topics with references to the relevant rulings.

What is the Commission for Uniformity in Administrative Law?

In 2010, the four highest administrative judges (the Administrative Jurisdiction Division of the Council of State, the Central Appeals Tribunal, the Trade and Industry Appeals Tribunal, and the Supreme Court) agreed to regularly consult to monitor and promote uniformity in administrative law. This means they aim to interpret legal rules applied by all highest administrative judges as uniformly as possible. The commission includes judges and legal staff from all four courts.

Chairmanship

The chairmanship of the commission is held for a two-year period by one of the courts. In 2025, the chairmanship changed. Until July 1, State Councillor in the Administrative Jurisdiction Division Mr. André Verburg was chairman. From July 1, the chairmanship is held by Vice President Mr. Arjo van Eijsden from the Supreme Court.
