On Wednesday, 11 February, the House of Representatives will debate the intended acquisition of the Dutch cloud company Solvinity by the American company Kyndryl. Among others, DigiD and MijnOverheid fall under the management. Members of Parliament will also debate cloud migrations to American tech giants in general. You can follow the debate live from 16:50 via Debat Direct.

For this debate, Minister of Economic Affairs Vincent Karremans and State Secretary for the Interior and Kingdom Relations Eddie van Marum will come to the House.

Concerns

Since the intended acquisition was announced, concerns have arisen among Members of Parliament. The SGP, and I believe many others, are worried about the data of millions of Dutch citizens now that the news has come out that the cloud company hosting DigiD and MijnOverheid has been sold to a foreign tech giant, said MP Chris Stoffer in the agenda of 25 November. I want to debate this (...) to ask for clarification and better safeguard our digital autonomy.

Multiple discussions

Prior to this debate, the Committee for Digital Affairs already held several discussions on this topic. For example, there was a External link:roundtable discussion in which committee members spoke with researchers and stakeholders about the security of critical IT infrastructure in the Netherlands. There was also a External link:technical briefing and a External link:meeting with the company Kyndryl.
