On Thursday, 4 December, the House of Representatives will debate the report ‘Vulnerable Children, Vulnerable System’ by the Health Care and Youth Inspectorate and the report ‘When Even Government Intervention Does Not Protect Children’ by the Justice and Security Inspectorate. The debate can be followed from 10:15 via Debat Direct. Live subtitles are available.
The debate was requested on 30 September by Lisa Westerveld (GroenLinks-PvdA) during the scheduling of activities. “Many parties here in the House said during the debate about the horrific abuse of the foster girl in Vlaardingen: this must never happen again. But last week we received two hard-hitting reports from the inspectorates about the situation in youth care and foster care. They said: if you really do not want this kind of horrific abuse to happen, then something must also happen in the House. They also clearly addressed the cabinet and the House,” said the member of parliament.
Letter
For this debate, State Secretaries Arno Rutte (Justice and Security) and Judith Tielen (Youth, Prevention and Sport) will come to the House. In preparation for the debate, the two ministers sent a letter on 2 December. In it, they inform the members of parliament about the inspection reports and the status of improvement measures following the events in Vlaardingen.
