Elections

The aim of parliament and government is to have the national budget, presented on Budget Day, adopted before January 1. This means approval by both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Ministries can then start implementing policy in the new year. Due to the elections on October 29, the budget debates for individual ministries this time take place in the period December-March, after the new members of parliament have taken office.
