Today, the House of Representatives appointed Songül Mutluer (GroenLinks-PvdA) and Henk-Jan Oosterhuis (D66) as members of the parliamentary inquiry committee on Corona.
Committee chairman Daan de Kort (VVD) is pleased with the swift arrival of these two new members: We will first start by sharing the results of the dossier investigation and the closed preliminary interviews. On that foundation, we will proceed towards public hearings. Because we must learn from the corona crisis, we must draw lessons for the future. We owe that to society.”
After the elections for the House of Representatives on October 29, committee chairman Daan de Kort remained the sole member. In the previous composition, the inquiry committee worked until just before the elections to complete all 88 closed preliminary interviews and ensure a proper handover of its work to new members. This allows Mutluer and Oosterhuis to quickly familiarize themselves with the work.
What does the committee investigate?
The inquiry committee aims to gain insight into the cabinets actions, the considerations made, and the insights underlying them during the corona years. This also applies to the role and functioning of the House of Representatives. The committee thus wants to draw lessons for the future. The inquiry committee specifically looks at how considerations were made between the importance of public health and other social interests. The handling of fundamental rights and the role of healthcare in the considerations and decision-making are also addressed.
The purpose of the parliamentary inquiry is to learn from the experiences of this crisis to be better prepared for possible future (health) crises.
Committee composition
The inquiry committee now consists of members Daan de Kort (VVD) chairman, Songül Mutluer (Pvda-GroenLinks), and Henk-Jan Oosterhuis (D66).
