The renovation of the Binnenhof is in full swing. Now that the implementation phase has started, it will be difficult to visit the construction site in the coming years due to all the work.  Therefore, a photo report of the current status, made on December 15.

Members of the House of Representatives, faction staff, and parliamentary officials were given a tour of the House of Representatives complex at the Binnenhof on that day. At the invitation of the Government Buildings Agency, about 600 people saw the progress of the renovation up close. A unique, and for now last chance.

All parts of the complex

The route through the construction site led visitors through the Plenary Hall, Old Hall, States Passage, and the Proceedings Room. Members of the House of Representatives, faction staff, and parliamentary officials also walked along and through all parts of the complex, such as the former Ministries of Justice (building section J) and Colonies (building section K), the former Hotel Central (building section H), and the new building (building section N).

Visitors received more information about the designs and the various works currently taking place. For example, the gate from the early 1900s between the former Ministry of Colonies with extension (buildings K and C) stands on large steel poles that act as a temporary support structure to enable underground work. On various spots, slaters are working on the roofs. Rotten beam heads are being treated by reinforcing them with epoxy. And masonry and window frames are being repaired on the facades. Inside, the buildings are fully wrapped with wooden panels so that all historical elements are well protected during the renovation. A real look could also be taken into the future public entrance with the help of a virtual reality headset.

Contracts signed

After an intensive research period and preparations, most contracts for the House of Representatives complex were signed in 2025 and the implementation phase has now started. Every day, hundreds of skilled workers work on the seven building sections, which together have a floor area of 70,000 m2.
