Thom van Campen (VVD) has been elected Chairman of the House of Representatives. In the third round of the election procedure, he received 79 of the 148 valid votes cast. Van Campen has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2021.
The election for Chairman of the House was decided on Tuesday, 18 November, in the third round. There were three candidates: Martin Bosma (PVV), Thom van Campen (VVD), and Tom van der Lee (GroenLinks-PvdA). After the first and second rounds, none of the candidates had obtained the required majority of 75 votes. Because Van der Lee received the fewest votes in the second round, no further votes could be cast for him.
Van Campen received 79 of the 148 valid votes cast in the third round, achieving the required majority. Bosma received 69.
Lets get to work
I want to especially thank all Members for the trust placed in me, said the Chairman immediately after the election. It is a responsibility that weighs heavily on my shoulders. He also thanked his fellow candidates Bosma and Van der Lee. We have all promised you short and effective meetings, so I wont keep you long. Lets get to work; the people in the country are counting on us.
