Mesman studied psychology in Leiden and earned her doctorate in child psychiatry in Rotterdam. At Leiden University, where she has been a professor since 2009, she has held various positions, including scientific director of the Institute of Pedagogical Sciences and dean of the Leiden University College.
Mesman has been appointed for a first term until the end of the current councils term, which ends on December 31, 2027. With Mesmans arrival, the council now has nine members.
