This year marks 81 years since the liberation of the Netherlands and also the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp. Since 2015, the liberation date of Auschwitz, January 27, 1945, has been an internationally recognized day of remembrance established by the UN: The Holocaust Memorial Day. Around the world, victims of the Holocaust and other genocides are commemorated on this date. In the Netherlands, gatherings are held around this day, concluding with the national remembrance.

The National Holocaust Remembrance takes place every year in Wertheimpark in Amsterdam on the last Sunday of January.
