The Netherlands opts for a gradual implementation, starting at smaller border posts to introduce the system in a controlled manner and minimize disruptions. After the maritime posts, other border posts and smaller airports will follow. A small-scale launch at Schiphol will take place on November 3. From early December, the EES will be expanded there.

The full implementation of the EES at all Dutch border posts is scheduled within a period of six months. In the meantime, stamping of passports remains in effect.

The EES applies to non-EU residents who wish to stay in the Schengen area for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period.

The new system contributes to better border control and combating illegal migration.
