Start Internet Consultation on the Amendment of the Criminalization of Illegality
Today, the internet consultation has started for an amendment to the Asylum Emergency Measures Act, reports Minister David van Weel (Asylum and Migration). This amendment, a so-called novella, ensures that assistance to foreigners residing illegally in the Netherlands will not be punishable. The consultation runs until September 26.
Minister Van Weel has indicated that he wants to present the novella to the House of Representatives as soon as possible after the consultation and advice from the Council of State.
He hopes that the consideration of the Asylum Emergency Measures Act can already start in the Senate, in anticipation of the legislative procedure of the novella.
The caretaker cabinet attaches great importance to the Asylum Emergency Measures Act. This is intended to simplify the asylum procedure, encourage foreigners to cooperate in their procedure, and contribute to limiting the influx of asylum seekers.
