The EU Fundamental Rights Agency was established in 2007 and provides assistance and expertise to EU institutions and EU member states in the field of human rights. The Board of Directors, to which all member states nominate a member and a deputy member, meets twice a year. The Board of Directors establishes the multiannual strategy, discusses activity reports, and approves the budget.
New Members
After the term of the previous Dutch members of the Board of Directors expired, the Netherlands nominated a new member and a deputy member. Although nominated by the Netherlands, the members are fully independent in the performance of their duties.
Mr. S. Muller becomes a member of the Board of Directors. He works as a consultant in the field of the rule of law and governance and advises internationally operating organizations in this area. He is the founder of the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law and has extensive experience in administrative and supervisory roles at various (international) organizations.
Ms. A.L.M. Mutsaers becomes a deputy member of the Board of Directors. She is a former partner, lawyer, and management board member of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek and has gained years of administrative and supervisory experience alongside her legal practice. She is currently a commissioner at various international organizations and a lecturer at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Erasmus University Rotterdam.
The appointment term of the aforementioned members starts today, September 1, 2025.
