The number of reports of disturbances caused by individuals with distressed or misunderstood behavior has been increasing in recent years. This is not only at the police but also at, for example, housing corporations and within healthcare. Many parties are addressing the issue, but often within their own domains and separately from each other. Therefore, an interdepartmental approach has been initiated, under the direction of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, together with the Ministries of Justice and Security, Health, Welfare and Sport, Housing, Spatial Planning, and Social Affairs and Employment. In this approach, the national government collaborates with municipalities, care and safety partners, social organizations, and businesses.
Within the approach, existing initiatives from these parties are further developed in a more integrated manner. The approach is also broadened with attention to income security, as this is often an important factor in finding a solution for individuals with distressed behavior. This includes income, housing, debt issues, and employment. A part of the approach is better alignment with forensic and regular care. The House of Representatives will be informed annually about the progress of the approach. On Wednesday, May 28, the involved ministers will debate with the House of Representatives about the approach.

Joint Approach for Assistance to Distressed Individuals
The cabinet aims to contribute to the well-being of individuals with distressed behavior and their surroundings through a joint approach. Attention is also given to income security. The approach should also reduce pressure on, for example, care professionals and police. Minister Judith Uitermark of the Interior and Kingdom Relations coordinates the approach.
