The Electoral Council has previously issued its advice on the elections to the government and both Chambers. The Electoral Council states in the advice that sufficient time is needed to properly organize the elections with regard to legal deadlines and feasibility. This includes, for example, the ability to print and distribute voting passes, finding locations for polling stations, recruiting volunteers to staff them, and providing candidate lists. Additionally, the Electoral Council considers it undesirable to hold elections during a holiday period, as people may be less able to cast their votes.
The advice of the Electoral Council will be taken into account in the final decision of the caretaker Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The expressed wishes of parties in the House of Representatives will also be considered.
Caretaker Minister Uitermark: “I thank the Electoral Council for the clear and swift advice provided regarding new elections. With this advice in hand, I will speak as soon as possible with parties involved in organizing the elections. On Thursday, I will sit down directly with the municipalities, which play a crucial role. In choosing an election date, we aim for a balance between thoroughness and feasibility, as well as clarity for voters and political parties. The decision regarding an election date is expected to follow later this week. This will still be discussed in the Council of Ministers.”
