With the attacks, Russia is not only trying to cause as much damage as possible but also to break Ukrainian morale and disrupt the economy. Therefore, in addition to air defense capabilities, support for urgent repairs to the energy infrastructure is essential for Ukraine.

The cabinet has reserved funds for 2026 to assist Ukraine in acute emergencies and is now allocating €25 million in additional energy aid.

Of this amount, €10 million is designated for urgent repairs and equipment, €10 million for gas purchases abroad, and €5 million for the acquisition of reserve materials from (Dutch) companies and organizations.

Earlier, the cabinet made €58 million in energy aid available for 2026. That money is also intended for reserve materials and repairs, and additionally to train people to work in the energy sector. The €25 million in acute energy aid is on top of this.

State Secretary De Vries: “We stand firmly behind Ukraine. Of course with military support, but the help for the energy sector is also vital for Ukraine. The economy and society must keep running, even as winter approaches. We are helping with that.”

The amounts are part of funds the cabinet previously reserved for 2025 and 2026 for non-military support to Ukraine. In total, this amounts to €252 million per year.
