On October 21, the shortlist for the Human Rights Tulip was announced. At that time, 10 candidates remained. An independent jury selected a top 3 from these. The remaining candidates were selected based on the social impact of their work and their courage to promote human rights despite threats and attacks. Human Rights Center Viasna

Human Rights Center Viasna is a human rights organization founded in 1996 during mass protests against democratic opposition in Belarus. Today, Viasna monitors the human rights situation in Belarus and raises awareness of democracy and human rights. The organization also advocates for citizens and political prisoners. Leng Ouch has been committed for 22 years to human rights and environmental rights in Cambodia. Through research into abuses and exposing corruption, he advocates for communities disadvantaged by companies or the government. Thai Lawyers for Human Rights

Thai Lawyers for Human Rights is an organization founded in 2014 by a group of lawyers and social activists for human rights, two days after the military coup in Thailand. The lawyers provide pro bono legal aid to people affected by arbitrariness or prosecuted for exercising their civil and political rights. What is the Human Rights Tulip?

The Human Rights Tulip is an award annually given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to a human rights defender or organization to support them in their important work. The winner receives the bronze tulip and a cash prize of €100,000. This amount and the international visibility help the winner continue and expand their human rights work.
