The order consists of a total of 588 swap body systems, 100 tractors, and 97 recovery vehicles. Defence is thus strengthening operational and logistical support. This ensures that the organization has sufficient transport capacity and sustainability. With the new fleet, Defence also has more options for transporting heavy equipment, such as the Leopard 2A8 battle tanks.
Additionally, Defence is acquiring spare parts, special tools, testing equipment, and documentation. The necessary equipment is also included in the order. This includes jacks and run-flat tires. With these tires, soldiers can continue driving even with a puncture in case of emergency.
Deployment
The majority of the new WTB vehicles are deployable under heavy terrain and climatic conditions. They are suitable for movement over unpaved roads and through rough terrain. A large portion is also useful in amphibious operations and missions where no bridging equipment is available.
Furthermore, some of the vehicles will be equipped with features for ballistic protection and armament for self-defense. These make them suitable for deployment in the highest spectrum of violence. The WTB vehicles are intended for defense-wide deployment.
The current vehicles are at the end of their technical and economic lifespan. They will receive a second life within Defence as a strategic reserve.
