They will collaborate in 3 areas. For instance, State Forest Management can sell land to Defence (and compensate nature elsewhere). They also want to design defence areas and possibly manage them. Furthermore, both parties can share knowledge in nature management and biodiversity to improve nature.

"This collaboration shows how two government organizations can strengthen each other for the common good," said Boudewijn Revis, general director of State Forest Management. "By smartly using our expertise in nature management and our extensive land holdings, we can help Defence with their space issue while simultaneously strengthening nature."

Deputy Minister of Defence Gijs Tuinman emphasizes the importance of this new approach: "By collaborating with State Forest Management, we can better fulfill our defence tasks and contribute to a sustainable future for the Netherlands, where security and nature go hand in hand."

The organizations are now first working out the plans. They hope to finalize a definitive agreement in the future.
