At the end of last year, it was still unclear how much time would be needed to comply with all regulations. The changing security situation in the world calls for decisiveness. Defence cannot afford to wait and see if and when new policies will come. Buildings and grounds need to improve more quickly. This contributes to the readiness of the armed forces.
Deputy Commander of the Naval Forces Rear Admiral Harold Liebregs: “We must prepare for potential deployment. This means that the entire organization must accelerate. This also applies to the construction of the new barracks at Camp Nieuw-Milligen. We ask the market to start preparing for this.”
The preparation for the tender therefore starts now. Interested construction parties need sufficient time for this.
One step closer
The marine units and supporting personnel are currently stationed at the Van Braam Houckgeest Barracks in Doorn. Equipment is stored in Maartensdijk. These buildings are outdated and poorly maintained. For the marines, the construction of the new barracks is getting one step closer. This also applies to the local residents, the municipalities of Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Apeldoorn, and the Province of Gelderland.
Defence is working closely with these organizations and the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf on the establishment of the new marine barracks. The maximum is being done to realize the redevelopment of Camp Nieuw-Milligen as quickly as possible with all parties involved.
